Chamber 2: Templeton PAC
Festival Mozaic returns to the intimate Templeton Performing Arts Center for an evening of all Russian chamber music. On the first half of the program, Glinka's Sextet for piano and strings shows the composer's fascination with Italian opera, while Gliere's String Octet for strings is distinctly Russian in character and rivals Mendelssohn's Octet as the finest piece for this ensemble. Finishing the program is Shostakovich's Piano Quintet, noteworthy for including a prelude and fugue directly modeled after the works of J. S. Bach.
