Ethan Blake
Cello • 2025 Mozaic Fellow
Hailing from Colorado Springs, cellist Ethan Blake recently received a MM from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with David Ying, and previously received a BM at the University of Colorado Boulder. He has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic and Colorado Symphony, and has previously been a member of the Alabama Symphony and the Boulder Philharmonic, where he served as Assistant Principal Cello. He has also made appearances as principal cello with the Fort Collins Symphony, the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, and the Greeley Philharmonic, among others.
Ethan is the winner of awards such as the Eastman Cello Concerto Competition, the University of Colorado Honors Competition, and the T. Gordon Parks Concerto Competition. As soloist, Ethan has appeared with the West Texas Symphony, the Arapahoe Philharmonic, and the Pikes Peak Philharmonic, among others. He has received fellowships to perform at the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. As a teacher, he has worked at the ROCmusic Collaborative, El Sistema Colorado, Eastman Community Music School, and the Parlando School of the Arts in Boulder, where he served as an instructor for their School Outreach program.
This fall, Ethan joins the Buffalo Philharmonic as Assistant Principal Cello. His past mentors include David Requiro, Alice Yoo, Matthew Zalkind, and Annemarie Dawson. Outside of playing music, Ethan enjoys cooking, playing basketball, and exploring the outdoors.
